Hawaii Voluntourism
The Hale Hookipa Volunteer Vacations program was
recognized by O Magazine!
2008 marked the 11th year of Hale Ho'okipa Inn. It
sure feels good to look around and see the fruits of my labor.
Now it is time to reach out a little further and continue to
give back to the wonderful aina that sustains me. I have lived
in these islands for over thirty years now, and everyday I am
grateful for the place I call home.
Being a hostess for visitors, I find myself in a position to
share a bit of Maui no ka oi, Maui the best. I would like my
guests to have a wonderful, refreshing and rewarding time while
on vacation. At breakfast, as guests ask advice for their day, I
weave in culturally sensitive issues and how to approach the
places they visit with awareness and respect.
With this in mind, I offer some suggestions on
voluntourism to anyone who wants to give back to
the paradise they love to visit.
Aloha malama ka aina.... respect the land, with love,
Cherie
